Another post-Kreese-choking-Johnny fic idea. In the scene, Kreese throws Johnny down to the ground when Mr Miyagi intervenes, and then Mr Miyagi and Daniel just walk away after Kreese has been dealt with. What if Johnny was actually really badly hurt, but they don’t know that because they never checked on him? Bobby is left to freak out and call an ambulance, and deal with everything. Daniel doesn’t hear about it until he’s back in school on Monday, in a knee brace and sort of loitering by the lockers, and hears some other kids having a conversation along the lines of: “Did you hear about what happened to that Johnny kid? I heard he was in the hospital. His coach tried to kill him. I dunno, sounds pretty bad, man.”

After school he goes to visit Johnny, and there’s no one there with him? Maybe Bobby has been in and out when he can, but his parents also want him home; and Laura/Sid gave the bare minimum of attention after they established that he wasn’t dying? So Daniel stays to keep him company, even though Johnny is embarrassed and can’t really talk, and they work out a way of communicating via notebook, and just sort of... become friends. To both of their surprise. And at the end of the week, Daniel and Mr Miyagi are the ones who give him a ride home, and they invite him to start training with them. Both boys help each other grow up a bit and mellow out, and they eventually become more than friends.

Bonus points if Daniel’s mom is actually really supportive of their friendship, and proud of Daniel for being so mature? Like, just wants him to be happy, and is proud of his ability to move forward and see the good in people and be a good friend?

+11111 UGH I WOULD LOVE THIS. Someone write it plz!

Small detail: I don't think they would have school next day, Tournament was Dec 19 (it said on the poster), so they'd be out for Xmas break. But that could be even better for the story since Daniel would have more time to spend with him.

Hmm... could honestly still work for both! My school used to let out for X-mas break on the 22nd/23rd, around there. So could both have hearing about it in school and the extra time together! Win win.
