KK or CK: Silver/Daniel, Silver's soulmate mark is damaged (soulmate au)

KK/CK universe with 1 major difference: Everyone is born with a soulmate mark (soul-mark) on his/her/their chest. Soulmates are connected through their matching soul-marks (with faint impressions of places, sounds, scents, people), helping draw them together. When they meet, their marks identify the other by means of a Pull (bond), a physical pulling/tugging sensation behind their mark followed by an intense sharing of their souls: memories, dreams, and other soul-stuffs. However, a soul-mark connection can be significantly weakened or lost altogether if the mark is damaged. In these cases, the soulmates finding each other is a question of chance rather than fate. By touching the damaged soul-mark directly, skin-to-skin, the other soulmate can restore it. Only then can the marks recognize each other and thus only then are the soulmates able to feel the Pull, completing their bond.

When Terry Silver is in Vietnam, he takes a hit to the chest, directly on his mark. He narrowly escapes with his life, but afterwards his mark is barely there, unrecognizably disfigured by scar tissue.

At some point, Daniel, totally by accident, shocks them both when he unwittingly restores Terry's mark and they instantly feel the Pull. How do they each take it? What do they do?

This could work as a KK3 retelling, a post-KK3 story, or a CK s4 story. I personally like the idea of a CK s4 story (the rude and inconvenient awakening! the drama! the making up of lost time!). But I understand CK era would require more padding, so KK3/post-KK3 is fine too!
