When they meet in the in '84, Johnny and Daniel realize they're soulmates. Daniel is shocked, but accepts that them's the breaks. Johnny ruthlessly denies anyone but Ali could possibly be his soulmate and rejects Daniel at every turn, uncaring that soulmate rejection can be extremely detrimental to the rejected half's health. Something that gets worse over time their nascent bond takes each act of bullying as further rejection. A combination of Mr. Miyagi helping Daniel find work arounds and pure Jersey stubbornness keeps him functional if not particularly stable. Which is especially important as every attempt post-tournament to actually reach out to Johnny for at least some kind of bond is met by continual rejection. (soul bonds don't necessarily have to be romantic)

Eventually Daniel meets Amanda and comes to an uneasy balance with his damaged, half-formed bond by avoiding anything Johnny related afterwards.

Fastforward to Cobra Kai. The discovery of Johnny's petty, careless destruction of the bonsai in the parking lot was the last straw and the work arounds won't work anymore.

Somehow Johnny finds out Daniel is dying from the bond becoming more damaged than could be compensated for. In fact, at this point, even Johnny accepting the bond wouldn't even work. No more chances, death is imminent. (I keep picturing a dr explaining that each rejection causes a wound to form in the area of the brain where the soul bond connects and that Daniel has so much damage and scar tissue at this point that there's no way to even stop the current 'brain bleed', never mind actually reverse it)

Faced with the knowledge that he's actually killed his soulmate, Johnny is devastated.

But Yaya says if he prays to the goddess who creates the bonds in the first place, maybe she'll take pity on his soulmate if nothing else.

It sounds like hokey nonsense to Johnny, but he never actually wanted Daniel to die, so even the hokiest of nonsense is worth a try.

It works, sort of. Johnny finds himself in 1984 (or 85), with exactly one shot to put it all to rights.

Happy ending only, please, whether that means a romantic or platonic bond. Dealer's choice if new-timeline!Johnny remembers the actual original timeline or just the weird future version of himself that came back to the 80's to slap him upside the head.

ps -honestly, I love soulmate AUs and I am absolutely stuck on that unnecessary act of violence on a poor baby tree to the point that it's crawled into my brain and started paying rent. Also, I was originally going to write this myself - as is probably evidenced by the detail, I guess - but I'm going through eviction and I'm SUPER STRESSED right now. I can't write much of anything, nvm a lot of plot, but I'm still craving fic for this idea.

OP Here! I'm open to everything. In my head it was definitely less wholesome at least as vibes,mostly because I love Terry as who he is (manipulative) so even if Daniel trusts him and he is relieved that someone is taking care of him and helping him there's something dark underneath, the feeling that it's not all as genuine as Terry wants to pretend it is.

After the end of KKIII Daniel can't really move on with his life and what Terry did to him in the movie maybe he is angry because Terry tricked him, maybe because he tought their relationship was real (and you know, Terry was basically his first friend and his crush). He starts to casually going around his house, his work, follows him everywhere.
After this anything can happen but I would like a happy ending.

Post S3 Terry Silver is messing with Daniel.

Hes (canonically) never told Amanda or Johnny about the events of KK3 and wants to protect them so he deals with his issues alone and becomes increasingly, depressed, withdrawn and paranoid.

Johnny’s worried, so is Amanda. They team up to discuss Daniels behaviour and play detective. As they get closer to the truth they are flabbergasted by the total insanity of the events of 85 and can't belive Daniel went through that shit and never told them.

In his fragile state Daniel thinks they're having and affair and is devastated. Maybe he had a bit of a breakdown. Luckily by this time they've unravelled the awfulness of his youth and can reassure and comfort him.

All those beatings awoke a masochistic streak in LaRusso.

He wants Johnny to beat him up during sex. Like, really brutally.

Johnny refuses. Trys spanking him hard instead but its not enough. Daniel wants more.

Johnny is freaked out that his youthful violent behaviour caused a lifelong sexual deviance his victim, but he also wants to please Daniel.
