If I can find time, I think I might just have to give this a shot. OP, would you be opposed to Daniel/Amanda/Johnny or would you prefer Daniel/Johnny only?

OP here, if you want to include Amanda than that's totally fine! Go for it.

So it was still legal to beat kids in California public schools until 1986.

As an Italian American surrounded by wealthy WASPs Daniel is discriminated against by the teachers and principal. Sent to the office for every little thing. Or maybe even disciplined in class in front of everyone.

Even though they haven't always gotten along Johnny can see how unfair this is. Eventually he can't watch Danny being singled out over other kids anymore and takes a stand. Maybe even taking a beating for him.

Johnny has a thing for Bobby's hair, but when Bobby goes bald, Johnny thinks it's a judgement from God because Johnny liked it so much.

OP I've been thinking about these dynamics a lot while watching that gif of Johnny & his tall blonde Cobra crew circling a clearly more dark-featured Daniel who's placing himself between them and tall blonde Ali, and just realizing I know this scene very well.

Also, his & Miyagi's relationship is very much one of outsiders connecting. Miyagi's the only adult who steps in - none of the teachers seem to care and the gym teacher even throws Daniel back into the group of guys tormenting him. I would absolutely buy this and would love to read a fill.

Totally agree. Particularly in the 80s it would have been a big risk for someone like Daniel to mix with the crowd he finds himself in.

In the KK DVD commentary (link below) at one point the director is asked "Why are they (The Cobras) all blonde?" He replies "In case you didn't get it." Meaning the social dynamic he was going for. Apparently during filming he referred to Ali's parents as "The Protestants" :-)

I totally see Miguel as analogous with young Daniel. Making his close relationship with Johnny even more moving.

Oh...OH AND the treatment of racism towards Miyagi in the film is interesting. His family dies in an internment camp, despite his loyal service to the country. He's repeatedly referred to with slurs. He's the only one teaching genuine Karate while Kreese is teaching a bastardised version of it etc.

Yes absolutely! Plus I think it's interesting that we have Daniel witnessing the scene at the beach where the guys drinking on the Ford start calling Mr. Miyagi slurs, and he sees Miyagi lose his temper a little bit - ("How did you do that? Don't know! First time!") and breaks the beer bottle. It's a good indication that he's not just some otherworldly eternally chill dude, Daniel sees the active use of his techniques to keep himself calm. In KK3, the thing that finally gets Daniel back up and into the fight and out of his haze of fear is Silver and Kreese and Barnes shouting insults and slurs about Mr. Miyagi. I just think their relationship is so interesting and it'd be amazing for Johnny to be able to recognize that, or at least the weird injustice of adults bagging on the kid he "hates" too.

Despite being smaller, Daniel is the ultimate blanket hog. Every time they sleep in the same bed, Johnny wakes up cold and Daniel wrapped up like a burrito.

While I love Slutty!Daniel and Dark!Daniel, Burrito!Daniel is where it's at!

Not OP, just mentioning for anyone not old enough to remember the 80s, the "paddle" was actually a cricket bat. Yes, I am fucking serious. So, like, if anyone writes this, keep that in mind.

Daniel has a virus, or maybe some intense dental surgery...something like that which renders him speechless for a time. Johnny is delighted at first because he always figures Daniel has too much to say and also it means Johnny can tease mercilessly and be an annoying ass in general without the usual verbal pushback. Except it's not as fun as Johnny thought it would be, because after a while he actually misses Daniel's whining and griping.

Okay in fandom Johnny is packing and judging from his built that's probably the case. But what if it's not? What if he got so upset when that guy told Miguel Johnny has a tiny wang cause it's true and Johnny has been struggling with his insecurities his whole life. With women he's had a lot of practice and knows how to work around that but now that he's been in a happy relationship with Daniel for a while he feels his insecurities coming back full force. He struggles with it so much that he doesn't even let Daniel touch him much so he won't find out and of course Daniel misunderstands that and everybody ends up with their feelings hurt.

But in the end Johnny confesses the truth, Daniel is such a sweetheart about it and Johnny proceeds to thoroughly rock Daniel's world!

So... I have never seen Ralph Macchio in reading glasses, and I have fallen in love.

Would love to see Daniel fic with him and a pair of reading glasses that somehow make his doe eyes even bigger and a Johnny being unable to resist. Daniel trying to take off his glasses while they start to get busy, only for Johnny trying his damnest to convince him to keep them on.
